Still Looking

Well, I have been applying away to all kinds of places. It turns out that Student Loans will only cover my tuition so I will have to keep on working once I start school but millions of students do that so I am sure that it wont be the end of the world. Just have to pull my socks up some...Mike, thank you for the tip! I did apply but unfortunately they informed me that they are only looking to hire full time.
I will keep you posted.

Not Valid

Well, I was really hoping to get onto EI so that they would sponsor me to go take this one year Interior Design program at the Pacific Design Academy. I was very sad to hear this morning that unfortunately, because I quit Starbucks to go back to school I am not a candidate for EI. That sucks. So I guess I will be getting a job to hold me over until January when the program starts and I will be (hopefully) getting student loans to get further and further into debt. I am not having a good day. I feel like I am the biggest-lazy-silly person with no direction and no motivation to support myself. Yuck! What a sick feeling.

Fantastic

It is done. I have cooked my first complete Thanksgiving meal. I am proud and tired. It took me 7 hours but I did it. Made everything from scratch. Apple-Butternut squash soup, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, stuffing and dressing, candied yams, turkey, gravy, peas and carrots and pumpkin pies. A lot of food and so much fun. I sort almost panicked when I tried to clean out the turkey and called Aur in to do it for me but other than that...I really did good. I wish I could post some pictures of it for you all to be so amazed by my talents but I don't know how to.

Thanksgiving

Last weekend I had the luxury of eating of of Aur's mom's incredible Thanksgiving dinners. It was incredible. This Saturday I get to try my hand at cooking up a Viger Thanksgiving dinner for none other than the Vigers. Well, and Aur. I am pretty nervous about cooking this great big meal and don't have a recipe for candied Yams. If any of you have any please email me! Thanks.
Besides that I worked on my resume this week and am getting ready to get out there and apply, apply, apply. Hope something comes up!
Not much else to report...I finished my scarf box though so I will get pictures of it ASAP.

Coffee and Stuff

I can't come up with anything good to write about so brace yourself, this is going to be a mindless rant:

Tim Hortons makes a fine cup of Joe. It was the one thing I woke up for every morning this summer. I would stop in on my way to work at 6:45 and pick up a coffee and a bagel. Yum-eee. Then I would try and handle shifting gears and not letting the cup drip (which for some reason did about 90% of the time) and going over the speed bumps and...It was all worth when I got to my desk, sat down and had that first sip of goodness.

Since Aur has to go to the Unit Tuesday and Thursday evenings I try to spend this time with my Mom and tonight we plan to watch Something's Gotta Give and girltalk and maybe even paint our toenails.

My Dad finally got up the courage to get one of his wisdom teeth out yesterday. It was nice to be able to hang out with my parents and Aur in the middle of the day and watch some of the Horatio Hornblower episodes. For any of you who have not heard of this and like myself have a tendancy to get hooked to Television Series on DVD, this is a good one. There are six episodes in all and they are about a British Naval Officer in the 1790's (I think). Anyways, they are good and I recommend you rent them.

Octidlyober

I have been out of town a lot and I apologize to anyone who has come a lookin' for some news and has found none.
The first of the month is Aur's Birthday and we had a nice little celebration. I gave him presents a day early and we went out for a wonderful dinner to a great little restaurant on Government Street called Brasserie L'école. It was incredible. If anyone is looking to go I suggest you have an assortment of appys to share along with a platter of cheeses. The staff was awesome and the food was exquisite. I highly recommend everyone go there. They even served us the best tasting Chocolate Truffles ever on the house for the Birthday Boy. Really really great place!
Besides that I have been keeping very busy. I looked into some schooling options and found what appears to be my dream degree. A bachelor in Applied Science in Interior Design. Really could it be any better? Well, yes, it could be on the Island so that I could attend! Unfortunately for me this excellent program is offered at Kwantlen University College in Richmond. Uber-sad for me. Aur is stuck here for the next two years at least and we really can't afford to have two apartments and the school is too far from his parent's for me to commute...So I am at groud zero again. I am thinking of applying to Micheals though. Crafts are fun and at least I would feel like such a big Stain.

Progress

I finished the napkins.
I also took a glass beadmaking course yesterday at Starfish Glassworks in downtown Victoria. It was amazing! Everytime I get to do something creative I realize how much it all means to me. I got to make about thirty or so beads and I had the opportunity to really try out some neat stuff. While everyone else was making nice round beads with spikey things I was venturing into the land of chili peppers and strawberries. I really loved it. The teacher (who doesn't really teach anything but is there to answer any questions) kept saying how big my beads were...Yeah. I would recommend this workshop to anyone and they also have a glassblowing workshop which is what I am hoping to take next.

Good Intentions

So I started a new project without finishing the old ones. Now I have some napkins to sew from cheap curtains I found. As I sat down with my wine and set up the sewing machine, the material and put in the first disc of season three of Sex and the City I noticed that I had to wind up a new bobbing of red thread. Shucks. I hate that. I wish I had a room in the house where the sewing machine would be set up and I would have all the colors of thread I needed and working on a project would just be that easy. Anyways, after reading the instructions again on the proper bobbing-winding steps I started to sew...then the thread snapped. Double shucks. I re-threaded the needle and started over. Then the thread snapped again. And again, and again. I think six times in total. Apparently, I couldn't read instructions as well as I thought and I had done something wrong. Triple shucks. I fixed the problem, started up again and to my complete dismay, the needle broke. Damn, crap shucks. After replacing the needle, I started up again and one napkin later, that needle broke. Damn, crap double shucks. By this point I had drank way more wine than I had intented and I was putting in the second disk of season three. I had but one needle left and I really wanted to get this stuff done and out of my parents way! I replaced the needle again and started on my second line of my second napkin. Then the thread snapped again...

Hello

I have been so ridiculously busy since last Friday. My last day of Co-op. I went up to Whistler on the weekend and had a really great time. We got to go up the mountain and sight see and were fed incredible food the whole time we were there. Fun.
I also managed to fit in a trip to Ikea which I really needed even though I couldn't really get anything. It is my favorite place and the meatballs are so good. Did you know that when eating in the restaurant part of Ikea you can enjoy a personal size bottle of delicious red wine?! Yes, favorite place.
Now I am trying to keep up with all the projects that I want to accomplish and it is proving to take me way longer than I had planned. My coolest invention yet has to be the scarf box I am just painting up today. It is very practical and I can't wait to get it home and house all my scarves and hats in it.
Hope you are all being treated just as well,
Deb

Taking out the Goods

I do believe Lorna is right. Fall is here. And because I live in Victoria I can say that with a glitter of excitement in my eye. It is very exciting to take out my sweaters from the back of the closet. Bring out my box of Scarves (that is my favorite!) and tuques and vests and socks.

I will definetely miss the Summer but I am looking forward to taking advantage of Autumn. The thing I miss the most about living out east is the changing of the leaves. All the vibrant colors that make up the foliage for Miles are so beautiful. For all of you out there, don't take it for granted because the next thing you know winter will be here and unfortunately for you it is going to get really F#!*ing cold.

UGH.

(You may contact me regarding the correct pronunciation of the title word.)
Well, it is now Thursday a week after my extraction. For those of you who send me well wishes, thank you. For the rest of you, well whatever, nothing for the rest of you.
It all happened quicker than I had imagined however I have been having a bad reaction to the pain pills and the antibiotics, (I have tried two different kinds now), that makes me vomit...a lot. Not the best thing for recovering after this kind of surgery. So I feel like throwing up all the time and I can just barely stay concious from the pain. Other than that, great.
s'all for now,

Today is the day I go in to get my wisdom teeth removed. I have been putting this off for many years and I am not looking forward to the experience at all. Birdie Numnums

After more than a week of having nothing to report I am sitting here with all kinds of things racing in my mind...So much I want to share; where sould I start?! Biggest to smallest, important to less important, in order of relevance to me...so many choices. I think I will go with reverse chronological.
Right now, I am feeling under the weather. My family and Aur are all flu-ish as am I. It really sucks. I have always had a problem with getting sick in the summertime. It really upsets me to feel yucky when the sun is shining like never before. (Okay, I know it has always shone and today isn't all that different than yesterday, last week or ever, but it feels like it when I am sick in the summer.)
On my ride home today I got pooped on by a bird. It landed right on my hand/wrist area. A whole range of emotions flooded as I realized what had transpired. Let me share some of these with you:
Wow, my wrist feels cool compared to the rest of me
(Look down)
Oh my, I got pooped on!
Huh, I would have thought it would be a warm sensation as aposed to a cool one
But then I guess it did just fly through the air at a pretty rapid rate
It really feels cool though...more like cold actually
Boy am I ever glad I am wearing gloves and a leather jacket
(Chuckle)
I wonder if any of those idiots who ride without a shirt on ever get pooped on
I wonder what I am going to use to clean it off...
All that just cause a load landed on one of my extremeties. I know it is incredible really.
Before that I guess the thing to talk about is how I have insurance on my motorcycle again (Cougar) and how I love to ride and how great she is. I went for a ride out to Sooke with my dad and it was an awesome good time.
Previous to that incident, the starter on the car (Snowracer) blew on me again so that sucked.
Aur also left this week to go on the boats to get his sealegs. He called a couple of times and he is having a gay ol' time doing lots of fun stuff and other things. He also hasn't thrown up yet which is very cool.
Boat = bateau
Sick = malade
Vomit = vomir
Thanks for visiting and come again,

Back to Reality

After a beautiful long weekend it is only too soon that reality comes and nips me in the butt.
Aur and I went up to Port Alberni (the Salmon Capital of the world) this weekend. I had never been up island before so I was very excited about this wannabe road trip. I hardly slept Friday night and woke up early Saturday to begin packing. Like a good girl, I packed for the both of us. Bathing suits, wine, toothbrushes, did I mention wine? Yeah. So then we went over to my parents for breakfast and hit the road at around two thirty.
I drove because Aur was on crutches. (He got hurt at work on Friday and couldn't walk. We spent all of Friday evening/night at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. I could go on and on about what we saw there...) So I didn't mind driving since I have been driving so much lately anyways. The Snowracer and I get along pretty well and she hasn't let me down even though she can be quite the workout at times.
It took just under three hours to reach the Port and we only made one quick stop at a candy shop on the way. They had lots of fudge! We used their loos, bought some fudge and then on the way out, I saw it there. It was so silent and looked so alone that I had to go to it. You guessed it! A Slush Puppie Machine. I haven't had the pleasure of a Slush Puppie in a dozen years! (Slurpies just don't cut it for me, even when you put gummie candies in them) I had a hard time chosing a flavour and I thought it best not to go multi-flavour after so long, but after a few groans from Aur I went with Cherry. It was so good. Even the cup was a genuine Slush Puppie cup.
When we got into town it was hard not to notice the exorbitant number of Cold Beer and Wine stores. Just about every corner had one. As Mike pointed out, it was comparable to the number of Star$ in Vancouver...
The view was really spectacular and our hotel was nice. We were pretty lucky with that because we just called around numbers from the phone book and reserved at the first place that had availability! It was actually the nicest place in town.
Sunday we went out to Sproat Lake and chilled out on the beach reading, tanning, swimming. It was good fun and very relaxing. The water was really warm and they had the last two water bomber planes anchored there so Aur was very excited and told me lots of stories about forest fire fighting.
Before heading home yesterday we stopped at the Cod Father Fishery and got us a selection of Smoked Salmon. It is SO delicious. They had many different flavours and it was hard not to buy a lot of everything but we managed to chose four kinds and leave with very happy smiles on our faces!
Arriving back at the Shoebox yesterday was a little sad but we had a great time and I cherish that.
Salmon = saumon
Tasty = goute bon
work = travail
I will hopefully hear from all of you soon,
Deb

I Miss my Friends

I am not really the type of girl that has many girlfriends. It isn't really a conscious thing. It's just that I never really got along too well with them. I got picked on A LOT in elementary school and at my high school in Quebec by girls. I never had the little possy of girls that I grew up with and we were all best of friends like Now and Then or the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. Actually, the girls in school decided every few months to form the "Against Debbie Club". That was fun, for them. So I started to hang out with guys instead because I found that they were more forgiving of the little things. They don't compete with you on every little thing. It was better.
Then when I moved out to Victoria 3 years ago I started to meet some really cool girls. Awesome girls and really good friends. (This is where the title fits in) It hasn't failed though, that just when I meet girls that I really get along with and that we have things in common...Bam. They move away. All of them. It never fails. And it sucks. I feel like I am somehow cursed to not have good girlfriends. Now don't get me wrong, I am not looking for them and believe me, it is still for the mostpart easier to hang out with guys...But I'd like to make a friend and put the time and effort into a friendship that isn't just going to have to turn into a long distance thing as soon as it gets to the comfortable stage. When you know that if asked for their opinion, it wont just be nice, it will be the truth.
Friend = ami (guy) amie (girl)

Trying to go to Tofino

Believe it or not.
When you are trying to make plans by yourself, for two who have never been there, it can be a challenging thing. Especially if you are silly and you have left making plans to the last minute. Having a fear of bear and/or cougar attacks, camping doesn't sound like a good night sleep. (I rather fake camp at Goldstream where I have slim to no chance of running into wildlife)
Trying to search the internet for information is confusing and all the prices I am finding for lodging start at $115/night. That just seems extravagant. Even the hostile is $80/night. wtf.
I do hope to go up there though because my friend is heading there this weekend and she says that she will teach me to surf. That is cool.
The problem with that is that I am afraid of being in water that I can't see the bottom of. Yeah. A big scardycat is what I am.
If any of you know what you can do to help such fears please share them with me so that I can crawl out of my shell and do something besides drink.

Just When I thought She Couldn't be Better...

Okay. So I have been talking a lot about Lola lately. I know. The rest of you are all jealous. Well, I just have one more little rant.

You see, for the last I don't know how long my mom has been coming back from hair appointments looking like a great great grandmother from the 80's. It is as though when she turned 35 the hairstylists just decided that she would now need to have roller-hair and puffy nanny bangs.

How GROSS.

Even when I used to go the appointments as a teen and tell the so-called professionals NOT to make my mother look old and used up...They still would. Well, maybe they would tease the bangs more than if I hadn't of said anything, but definitely still old lady.
My mom had an appointment with Lady Lola on Sunday and I had the (believe me when I say) Awesome Pleasure to see her hair yesterday. I mean really. It could not look better. It has some sass. A fantastic color. And my mom loves it too. She is excited about her hair. She did NOT run home and wash out the AGE. She ran home and loved it. When I saw her yesterday she still couldn't stop touching it. My dad loves it. She's hot.

Thank you Lola. You have really made yourself two new loyal clients who will be willing to follow you where ever your path takes you.
The End.

Deb
